13 Glorious Nights and 14 Days
Sailing From London To Miami

This cruise harks back to the glamorous days of old when well heeled passengers would take the long journey via steamship from the old world – Europe – to the new world – North America.

But thanks to Royal Caribbean International – the second biggest shipping line in the world – we get to travel with the most modern comforts and luxuries and at a much quicker pace.

We’ll depart from Southampton, England at 5pm November 23, 2009.

And don’t worry – we’ve worked out the cheapest route from Australia to London for you. It’s cheaper than you think – you should be pleasantly surprised!

Anyway, back to the itinerary...

We’ll dock in Le Havre, France at 7am on November 24.  Le Havre is a picturesque and historic city in the northwest of France situated on the bank of the Seine River, and just a couple of hours from Paris.

It has a host of street markets, art galleries and cafes. You can stretch your legs with a short walk to the beach with the sea visible at every point.

Grab a taxi across the Seine to Honfleur, a picturesque old fishing port with lots of shops, galleries, places to eat and bars

The historic D-Day landing beaches of Normandy are not far away.

Also keep in mind that Paris is just a 2 hour trip by rail to take in the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame and the Champs-Elysees.

We’ll depart again at 9pm.

Next stop is the historic city of Cherbourg, in Normandy, northwestern France at 9am on November 25.

In the Napoleonic era Cherbourg’s harbour was fortified to prevent British naval incursions.

Underwater obstructions were sunk at intervals across the harbour entrance, and then progressively replaced with piles of masonry rubble. Works began in 1784 and were not concluded until 1850, long after Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Waterloo.

We’ll set sail again at 6pm.

The next stop is Vigo, Spain at 10am on November 27, departing at 6pm.

Vigo is the largest non-capital city in the country and is famous for its cultural and nightlife and its fishing industry.

The winding old streets around the port, in the Casco Vello, are sprinkled with shops and studios.

You can explore the stone streets of the Barrio del Berbes, the old port

Take a ferry from the Maritime Termina (decorated with murals) to the Cies Isles at the mouth of the ria, with beautiful beaches and nesting pairs of shore birds.

Go shopping along Gran Via and Puerta del Sol, or at the famous Spanish department store, El Corte Ingles, which does not observe the typical 2-4:30pm closing.

See the beautiful wide views over the ria from the castle on top of Mount Castro.

Visit the 17th-century Quiñones de León Palace, housing a museum of local history from the time of the area’s Celtic hill forts.

There are outstanding seafood restaurants with this being  Spain’s best shellfish region boasting prime oysters, plump mussels and langostinos, Europe’s own variety of lobster.

On November 29 we’ll dock in Funchal (Portugese Madeira), at 8am and depart at 5pm.

Madeira island is one of Europe's oldest travel locations and many thousands of tourists return year after year. Why?

Six days of crossing the Atlantic will follow before we arrive in Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA – known as the ‘Venice of America’ - on December 6 at 6am.

This is our final destination.... The good ol' U-S-of -A!!!

• You can catch a quick 2.5 hour flight to New York...
• A 1 hour flight to Orlando (Disneyworld) with the kids
• Or a 3 hour limousine ride to Disneyworld (save doing the whole airport thing!)

I thought the Rhapsody Of The Seas we cruised the South Pacific on was impressive.

The Independence of the Seas is DOUBLE THE SIZE!!!

You’ve got to see the Independence of the Seas we’ll be crossing the Atlantic in...

The sheer scale of this ship is utterly mind-boggling.

In fact, the Independence of the Seas is currently the world’s largest passenger cruise ship.

She boasts 15 decks and accommodates 4,370 passengers served by 1,360 crew.     

She weighs 160,000 tons. (The Rhapsody is just 78,491 tons.)

And consider that the latest cutting edge aircraft carriers being built by the US government are only 100,000 tonnes.

And the sheer opulence of the ship is jaw dropping.
It almost makes the Versace Hotel
on the Gold Coast look like a hovel.

	Children are separated by age: 3 to 5; 6 to 8; 9 to 11; 12 to 14; and 15 to 17. Your child will get to learn about local customs, do cool science experiments, and make great new friends.
